Anger about the climate protest at the Tour de France: Annoyed drivers

Dhe German professional cyclist Georg Zimmermann criticized the protest action by French environmental activists on the tenth stage of the Tour de France: “In my opinion, you can draw attention to political grievances in a different way,” the 24-year-old told ARD after his strong sixth place.

It is better to provide well-thought-out arguments instead of “radically torpedoing events and getting on other people’s nerves,” Zimmermann continued, who showed understanding for the protesters’ fundamental concerns: “Of course, you have to save the climate and I do I also stand behind environmental protection, but this is taking on the wrong proportions.”

Sit-in and Bengal fires

Previously, several people had blocked the route around 37 km before the day’s destination in Megeve with a sit-in and ignited Bengal fire. The race had to be neutralized for several minutes before the stage continued with the previously existing time intervals.

Zimmermann was able to take something positive from the interruption: “It was actually quite pleasant for me, I had to go to the toilet anyway,” joked the driver from the Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux team.
