Albert Pujols becomes the third all-time leader in MLB extra-base hits

Albert Pujols’ power with the bat is well known, and now against the Philadelphia Philliesthe legendary player hit his fifth four-corner homerun to reach 1,377 hits in which he reached at least second base, making him the third player with the most extra-base hits.

Pujols sent the ball over the center field fence off Dominican reliever Christopher Sanchez in the sixth inning of the Cardinals-Phillies game to reach the milestone in his 22nd career season.

Pujols, who also recorded the 684th home run of his illustrious career in the best baseball on the planet, is only surpassed in hits over one base by former outfielders Barry Bonds (1,440) and Hank Aaron (1,477). Pujols’ hits are divided into 684 homers, 677 doubles and 16 triples.

Among active players, Pujols is followed by Venezuela’s Miguel Cabrerawho ranks 17th in this category with a total of 1,126 hits over one base.

Pujols, to the All-Star Game

Both Pujols and Cabrera were selected to the All-Star Game to be held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on July 19.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 to reach 46 wins in the National League Central Division, two behind the leaders Milwaukee Brewers.

Pujols announced before the start of this season that this campaign would be his last as a professional player.
