A Serie A pre-season for Cantù

The order was categorical: immediately conclusive tests and a pre-season training. Forget, therefore, the soft approach of the past season. With Romeo Sacchetti, the page is also definitively turned in this area.

And for Cantù Basketball it will be a pre-season jokes and jokes. Hoping it can also be for the fans, because between scrimmage, facilities and agreements between the clubs, there will not always be open doors and therefore not in all commitments the supporters will be able to be on the sidelines.

The sporting director Fabrizio Frates has been working on the action plan for some time and in practice all the planning boxes are filled in, but not yet formalized.

The coach was clear: “Let’s go and find weighty opponents.” And so it will be, with friendlies against Serie A teams: Olimpia Milano, champion of Italy above all. And then also Brescia and the possible, but not easy and for now not even confirmed, transfer to Valtellina.

There, on the ashes of a Circuit that will probably return to the glories of the unforgettable patron Diego Pini as early as next season, the intention is clear, even if the organizers’ invitation came a little late compared to the biancoblù’s schedule: to bring in Media Valle – and therefore in the capital Sondrio – great basketball, which has always been identified with Bormio. This time, in addition to the foreign teams, Tortona will also arrive in Livigno: what better commitment, then, than a test with the ambitious Cantù? We are working on it, it will all be a game of joints.

For a while, however, Sacchetti and his staff will have to do without Roko Rogic. The 29-year-old play from Zagreb, in fact, will be busy with the Croatian national team this summer and will join the group late and not on 17 August. On the one hand, an inevitable nuisance, especially in the process of integration with the teammates and with the game of the new coach, but on the other hand also the awareness of having made a good grip, given that the selection of Croatia, historically, is one of the best of the lot.

The first part of the preparation, which Acqua S. Bernardo will take place entirely in Cantù, is aimed at the debut in the first official race of the season, in the Super Cup. The Cantù group includes Urania Milano, Basket Torino and JBasket Monferrato, for a group that will open on 11 September at home with the miniderby with Milan, and then go to Casale on Wednesday and close the 18 at home against Turin.
