50 years of Youth + Sport are celebrated at the Cst di Tenero

Youth + Sport (G + S) turns fifty. The Tenero National Youth Sports Center (Cst) celebrates this great milestone with a field that will welcome 700 participants from all over Switzerland from 31 July to 6 August 2022. Golf, fencing, skimboarding, archery, bmx, diving, judo and water activities such as canoeing and stand up paddle are just some of the sports that can be tried in this week that will celebrate the important anniversary of G + S.

For half a century, the Federal Office of Sport’s (UFSPO) promotion program has encouraged hundreds of thousands of children and young people to engage in physical and sporting activities under the guidance of qualified monitors. On a regular basis, G + S updates the range of disciplines that make up its basket. Currently there are 85. The latest addition is parkour, an activity which this jubilee camp will hold a place of honor. For the occasion, a special facility combined with the street workout will be inaugurated at the Tenero Sports Center.

The anniversary will also be an opportunity to celebrate the history of G + S over the past 50 years and take a look into the future. Sports activities, as well as some workshops, will be entrusted to the students of the Macolin Federal University of Sport. In this way we want to ensure quality teaching in which space will be given to the values of sport and the most advanced teaching principles.

A privileged moment of exchange and growth

The jubilee field will be different from the normal multisport courses that take place at the Cst. Participants will come from every region of Switzerland and will speak different languages. Among them there will also be young people with disabilities, as well as girls and boys with refugee status. This will offer an invaluable opportunity for personal growth, both during convivial moments and in the practice of sports disciplines. To stimulate interaction and exchange among young people, workshops are planned dedicated to emerging and sensitive topics such as ethics, prevention, inclusion in sport and the use of the media.

The program is tailor-made so as to be well balanced between sports activities, convivial moments, excursions and workshops. It will be an immersive experience that will offer participants the opportunity to become passionate about sport and group life. For example, young people will take part in a cooking class, circus activities in collaboration with the Dimitri Theater and a prevention workshop in collaboration with Swiss Olympic and the PluSport federation. In this way we want to encourage team spirit and push young people to go beyond the comfort zone.
