Fox Sports faces criticism after using the 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero in Manhattan as the backdrop for its night baseball graphics.
During the Saturday night broadcast of a game between the Yankees and the Red Sox, the network overlaid the team’s logos and the network’s “Baseball Night in America” logo on an image of the memorial pools at the World Trade Center.
The basins mark the locations of the North and South Towers destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed 2,977 people and shook the world.
The 9/11 Day organization, which organizes commemorations for the terrorist attacks, wrote on Twitter that “Fox Sports owes the 9/11 community an apology. To broadcast.”
The images also drew criticism on social media. Steve Scott, a local radio host, called the decisions “terrible”.

Carol Eggers, a former NBC News producer, called the decision “beyond the offensive” in a message that was reposted more than 3,000 times.

Fox Sports did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment, which was aired outside US business hours on Sunday.
