The taekwondo athlete Yohandri Granado and Elvismar Rodríguez, who competes in the judo discipline, are the standard-bearers of Venezuela for the Bolivarian Games Valledupar 2022. Both athletes received the country’s banner in a ceremony held at the birthplace of Simón Bolívar.

The delivery of the flag was carried out by some sports authorities in the country, including the new president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), Maria Soto. Also present were the president of the National Sports Institute (IND), Ninoska Clocier, and the Minister of Sports, Mervin Maldonado.

The flag bearers will parade and lead the Venezuelan team at the opening ceremony of the Bolivarian Games on June 24. The country attends the event, which will end on July 5, with 584 athletes who will participate in 44 modalities. Of the 584, 294 are male and 290 female athletes, almost 50-50 (%). They are also joined by 158 officers and technicians who will accompany them.

Who are the standard bearers?

Elvismar Rodriguez, 25 years old, is a judo athlete who will compete in the event in the -73 kilogram category. The athlete stood out for being a medalist in the Lima 2019 Pan American event, in addition to having qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Currently, Ella Rodríguez occupies the 13th position in the Judo world ranking.

In its international honors Rodríguez has 3 bronze medals obtained at the Pan American Championship held in Cuba (2016), 3 bronze at the Pan American Championship in Panama (2017), 2 silver at the Pan American Championship in Costa Rica (2018), another 3 bronze in the Pan American Championship in Peru (2019), 3 bronze medals at the Pan American Championship in Mexico (2020) and also one gold at the Pan American Championship in Lima (2022).

For his part, along with Elvismar Rodríguez, will be the taekwondo athlete Yohandri Granado who will compete in the category of -58 kilograms. Currently, the 22-year-old athlete is ranked number 10 in the world Taekwondo ranking.

In its laurels Granado has two gold medals won at the Pan American Championships in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and at the Open G2 in Havana, Cuba.
