FC Bayern Munich’s million-dollar poker game for Liverpool’s star striker Sadio Mané seems to have been decided. According to media reports, the German record champions and the Premier League club have agreed on a transfer of the Senegalese.

It only seems to be a mere formality: FC Bayern is about to complete its king transfer. Several media reports that FC Bayern and FC Liverpool have agreed to move Sadio Mané to the Isar. The 30-year-old is supposed to complete the obligatory medical check-up in the Bavarian capital at the beginning of the week. An official confirmation from Munich is still pending.

The Senegalese is to receive a three-year contract with the record champions. There is speculation about the transfer: but it should be less than 40 million euros including bonuses. Liverpool previously demanded almost 50 million euros for Africa’s footballer of the year.

Mané not a “real” Lewandowski replacement

Mané is not a 1:1 substitute for Robert Lewandowski, who is willing to change. The 30-year-old has international class as a goalscorer, which is underlined by 120 goals in 268 competitive games for Liverpool. But the Sengalese is more at home on the wing – and thus an alternative to Serge Gnabry, who has so far rejected an improved offer from Bayern to extend his contract, which also ends in 2023.

The 30-year-old is said to have assured Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann on the phone that he would fill any position that the coach gave him – i.e. that of center forward.

Mané has been under contract with Liverpool since 2016. With the club coached by Jürgen Klopp, he won every title that can be won in the Premier League, including the Champions League in the 2018/19 season. In 2022 he secured the African Champion title with Senegal.
