Salzburg’s judoka Maria Höllwart lost to Korea with Austria at the end of the Judo World Championships in Abu Dhabi on Friday. The Pongau native drew a clear conclusion afterwards.

For Austria’s judoka, led by Maria Höllwart from Salzburg, the first round of the mixed team competition at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi was the end of the road. They lost 1:4 against medal candidate Korea. Bernd Fasching (up to 81 kg) scored the only point, defeating Jueyeop Han. “To pull off a surprise against Korea, everyone would have had to rise above themselves,” summed up head coach Yvonne Snir-Bönisch.

After Abu Dhabi, Madrid awaits Höllwart

After the red-white-red exit, Maria Höllwart summed it up in an S24 interview: “I had no chance,” said the 24-year-old, who will continue her campaign in Spain in June. “I’m going to the World Cup in Madrid and then the European Police Championships,” said the Salzburg native, who also wants to use the summer for “strength training and weight gain.” On Thursday, the World Cup debutant failed in her first individual fight against Hilal Öztürk from Turkey.
