The ascent mission of the 1st JC Mönchengladbach is in jeopardy

Before the season, the 1. JC Mönchengladbach gave the goal for the women’s team to climb out of the NRW league. This project could now be on the brink. This also has to do with a less sportingly fair action by the opponent.

It remains to be seen whether this weekend will ultimately prevent the women’s promotion from 1. JC Mönchengladbach. However, it was definitely not conducive to the goal for the season. Actually, the women’s team of the Gladbach judo club would have fought two fights in Cologne on Sunday. First against Bayer Leverkusen and then against organizer JJJC Yamanashi Porz. But several corona cases in the team and in the immediate vicinity of some fighters, who themselves did not test positive, prevented the third day of the season.

“In addition to the sick, there were also injuries,” says Peer Radtke, spokesman for the 1st JC. “Lara Schmidt tore her cruciate ligament on the last day of the fight and will not be available for a long time. All of this meant that we couldn’t provide a team in Cologne,” Radtke continued. In the run-up to the day of the fight, trainer Melina Wehmeyer contacted the association and both opposing teams to look for an alternative date.

But this request only met with open ears at one club. The fight against Bayer Leverkusen was postponed (an exact catch-up date has not yet been set), but the Gladbach team could not come to an agreement with JJJC Yamanashi Porz. This fight was therefore rated 7:0 for Porz, since the 1st JC did not start the fight according to the interpretation of the association – the reasons are irrelevant in this case. “Of course, that’s unfavorable for the fight for promotion. It would be very annoying if that cost us promotion,” said Radtke. The last day of fighting in the women’s NRW league is scheduled for August 20th, when 1. JC meets PSV Herford and PSV Bochum. In the table, the Gladbachers are in fourth place with seven points and one fight less. In front of them are PSV Herford (9 points), JJJC Yamanashi Porz (8 points) and 1. JJJC Dortmund (8 points).

For the men of the 1st JC Mönchengladbach, the fight against the judo team Holten would have been scheduled for Saturday in the 2nd Bundesliga, but the duel also had to be canceled due to the corona. The new date is October 1st.
