The tennis player Rafa Nadal, after having won his 22nd Grand Slam in Paris, spoke at a press conference today in Mallorca. On the island, the Balearic is preparing for Wimbledon, which will begin in ten days. The number four in the world ranking spoke of various topics, going from the personal to the sporting.

The treatment

«The treatment I did in Barcelona is not immediate, I have noticed positive changes, somehow the pain that did not let me put my foot down went down. The sensations are foreignstrange things happen with the nerve, sometimes I fall asleep but it is normal and in theory after a few weeks the nerve will send adequate signals again».

«Let’s trust that things go well, I’m happy, it’s been a week that I’m not lame and this is important.

In my day to day I suffered different pains than I usually have and for me it is already an advance ».

«Now we have to wait the next few weeks to see the evolution. I have done two sessions and so far, from what I feel, it is being satisfactory. I have trained well during this week here in Mallorca».

Wimbledon

“I want to play Wimbledon and on Monday I will travel to London. This week of training made me understand that I have possibilities, once there I will prepare to play. With the passing of days we will see.

“I’m not sure if the treatment will work but it has allowed me to train and for me this is progress, it helped me make the decision to travel to London.”

«After 3 years without playing on grass you have to be patient, the first days I had complicated sensations that have improved every day. Now I have one week of training left and I hope it will help me get to the competitive tournament.

“At a tennis level, the fact of winning Roland Garros helps you but there is little logic in this because the surface is different, any round is complicated and the start of the tournament is vital because you play with people who have already been playing on grass.”

Paternity

“I’m not talking about my personal life because I’m already too exposed in my professional life, but yes, if everything goes well, I’m going to be a father and I don’t expect this to mean a change in my professional life.”

rest of the season

«The calendar marks me that later it’s up to another Grand Slam: the United States. I am going to do things to get there prepared, historically in recent years what I have done has been to play the first week in CanadaFrom there we decided what to do.

«The last few years I have played only one tournament on the American tour before the New York Open and it has been in Canada. It has gone well, I am not in favor of changing things that work well, but I am pro open to accept things as they come. My intention is to play Wimbledon, rest, play in Canada and then the Us Open.”
