“We try to be active in the player market, so when the opportunity arose in the form of Pontus, we did not hesitate,” says Skaters’ sports manager Vaclav Nedorost.

“I guess I can tell you, after all, it’s not surprising that we weren’t the only ones interested, not even in the Czech Republic, so we are of course pleased that Pontus chose us,” he adds.

It all started in the afternoon, when Mladá Boleslav gave the fans four clues.

Five years in the NHL, a goal in the final of this competition, the season in the KHL and the first Swede in the history of the club …

Moreover, it has recently become clear that the Swedes are doing well in the Czech extra league: Erik Thorell is an example.

Åberg peeked into the best hockey league in the world in Nashville, where he even played the aforementioned finals.

He then worked in Edmonton, Anaheim, Minnesota and Toronto. In recent years, he has not stayed in any team in the NHL for very long. Even so, he managed 150 matches (19 + 30) in the overseas league among the elite.

His steps then led to Russia, where in the 2020/2021 season he collected 23 Canadian points in Chelyabinsk’s jersey. He started in the AHL on a farm this year, but then returned to his native Sweden, where he finished the season in Timra.

Now he is waiting for the first time in his career in the Czech Republic. “He has experience, he has parameters, he is good at the puck, he should also play in powerlifting,” he describes for the club website Nedorost.

“For a young team like ours, it should be an ideal partner and a puller in one person,” concludes the sports manager.
