the Blues end the season with a defeat against Croatia

The France team lost 1-0 at home against Croatia on Monday in the League of Nations, thus officially losing its title with this fourth match without a win, in this competition in which the Blues had won the previous edition in 2021.

For their last game of the season, the Blues lost on Monday June 13 against Croatia (0-1) in the League of Nations. Last of their group, the French have officially lost their title won during the previous edition in 2021.

Already held in check 1-1 in Split a week ago, the men of Didier Deschamps yielded from the 5th minute of the meeting, on a penalty transformed by the middle of Real Madrid Luka Modric. Faced with a Croatian team well in place and masterfully held by the middle trident Kovacic-Brozovic-Modric, the French were clueless.

“This month of June was very difficult and very complicated. We didn’t have enough energy and strength against teams that had more than us. After losing a little confidence, we didn’t have enough success at times too, but hey, it’s above all the freshness, the physique and the dynamism which were not at our best level”, explained the coach Didier Deschamps after this defeat at the microphone of TF1.

An alarming record

With two draws (1-1 in Croatia and Austria) and two defeats at home (2-1 against Denmark), in a group initially considered affordable, the record is rather alarming, one year after a bitter failure at the Euro and five months before going to defend a world star in Qatar.

Exhausted by their season, disturbed by injuries and destabilized by tactical tests, the Blues never found the second wind they needed to garner confidence before the summer break.

This time, fatigue and physical glitches can no longer be put forward as explanations by coach Didier Deschamps, who risks thinking for a long time during the summer, after the first defeat in the history of the Blues against Croatia.

With only two points in four games, the Blues close the march of their Nations League group, seven points behind the Danish leader, winner of Austria 2-0 on Monday, with two more games to play in September. They also risk being relegated to the second division of this competition.
