Novak Djokovic recovers the last invitation for the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva

For once, Novak Djokovic will line up in an ATP tournament the week before a Grand Slam tournament. On Friday, the Serbian accepted the last wild card available to the organizers of the ATP 250 in Geneva, where he should play his first round on Tuesday or Wednesday.

After more than four months in 2024, the world number one has still not won a single trophy, has turned his staff upside down and, above all, has not provided any great guarantees on his level of play, very far from his performance standards. 2023, while Roland-Garros, of which he is the title holder, is fast approaching (May 26 – June 9).

Three years after Federer

With twelve wins and five losses this season, Djokovic does not have the pace of a world number one. His only two correct runs date back to the Australian Open (semi-finalist, beaten by Jannik Sinner) and the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo (also semi-finalist, defeated by Casper Ruud). A few days ago, in Rome, after the episode of the bottle received on the head, he disappeared in his second match, clearly dominated by the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (6-2, 6-3).

His choice to align himself with the lands of Eaux-Vives, which overlook Lake Geneva, testifies to his search for sensations, both technical and physical. This is a big blow for the Geneva tournament of which Marc Rosset is the sporting director, and which had already managed to attract Roger Federer three years ago.
