team events kick off on Sunday

ORAN – The table tennis tournament of the Mediterranean Games-2022 in Oran begins on Sunday, with the running of the team events, with 12 selections in the running for the men and 9 for the women.

Among the men, and for the first round, the Algerian team will play two matches against Egypt and Libya, while the Algerians will successively face the Tunisians then the Egyptians.

The first two from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, while the semi-finals and finals will take place on Monday 27 June.

The Men’s and Women’s Singles events are scheduled for Tuesday, June 28.

According to the coach of the Algerian selection “ladies and gentlemen” Mustapha Belahcen, the national selection composed of six table tennis players including three ladies, are well prepared for their entry into the running in this 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games.

“Our athletes prepared well during the last training camp in France last week, and are confident before facing the other competitors, especially those enjoying a high level,” said the Algerian coach.

The Algerian technical staff are counting in particular on Mehdi Bouloussa, 27, who is likely to win a medal, being used to rubbing shoulders with the best table tennis players and playing in a French club in the 1st division.

The three table tennis players of the Algerian women’s selection are: Lynda Laghribi, Katia Kessassi and Melissa Nasri.

The male trio is made up of Mehdi Bouloussa, Sami Khrouf and Larbi Boulariah.

The program of table tennis events (men and women), scheduled from June 26 to 30 in Algerian time, on behalf of the 19th Mediterranean Games in Oran (June 25-July 6, 2022).
