Sporting is interested in Oier Sanjurjo, legend of Osasuna

Sporting is very interested in signing Oier Sanjurjo (36 years old, Estella). The rojiblanco club has recently inquired about the situation of the player, who is ending his contract with Osasuna, where he was a true symbol of the Navarran entity. The footballer meets the profile that Abelardo is looking for for the next project. The coach from Gijón intends to sign a “6” for the midfield for Sporting: seniority, sacrifice, experience and positional play. The first efforts have been made to ask about the player’s situation, although it is not an easy contract due to multiple factors. Oier has other proposals in the Second Division and more teams that have been interested in taking over his signing as property.

Javi Rico and Abelardo see in the Navarrese midfielder a player who can play the role of leading player that has not been covered in recent times, especially the departure of Javi Fuego, and in an area where Sporting is full of young players like They are Pedro Díaz (24 years old), José Gragera (22) and Christian Rivera (24). The sports area also takes into account that some losses can occur in the center of the field. The club does not have Nacho Méndez, who has been informed that he will not have opportunities if he decides to continue with the entity, while José Gragera, who is concentrated with the U-21 team, is a footballer who has a market and may have some option of being transferred if the offer is satisfactory to all parties.

The coaches and sports management observe Oier’s multiple conditions and highlight his enormous versatility, much-needed qualities, and even more so if one takes into account that Sporting intends to make a revolution in the squad. Because the player can cover several positions: he has played as a defensive midfielder, as an interior player, center back and right back at Osasuna. And he has always done it at a very good level. Oier has said goodbye this summer to the rojillo club, being a true standard bearer in the entity.

Oier spent practically his entire career at the Navarrese club, with the exception of a single course where he was loaned out to Celta de Vigo (2011-2012). He played in Osasuna 356 games and scored 15 goals. Oier was captain of Osasuna. The footballer has been important this year for Jagoba Arrasate. He has played 28 games: 25 in the league and three more in the Copa del Rey, always as a defensive midfielder. The player is on vacation these days, resting after a season finale full of emotions. The Navarrese fans bid him farewell with a high tribute. On the last day he scored against Getafe (1-1).

The red and white sports management also manages other names to reinforce that position in the center of the field. Oier’s is not the only one on the list of candidates. The first objective, in any case, is to lighten the wage bill and try to speed up the exit operation. There are three players who do not fit into Abelardo’s plans: Nacho Méndez, Víctor Campuzano and Bogdan.
