Sousa would have given up, another ex-Bordeaux favorite to take over the Pharaohs?

In search of a new coach following the dismissal of Ehab Galal after only three controlled games, the Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) had made Portuguese Paulo Sousa its priority. While the discussions had started well, they were however not conclusive according to the media King Fut, which indicates that the former Bordeaux coach would have finally declined the approach of the Pharaohs. A decision taken after an exchange with his compatriot Carlos Queiroz, who left the post in March and who himself recently refused to return because he was cold with the EFA…

In this context, the local press erects a new favorite: Vladimir Petkovic. Coach of Switzerland between 2014 and 2021, the Swiss made a name for himself by leading the Nati to the quarter-finals of the last Euro after eliminating France. Last summer, the 58-year-old then joined the… Girondins, too. In Bordeaux, however, the experience was cut short and ended with a dismissal last February.

However, Petkovic’s rich experience as a coach seems to appeal to Egyptian leaders. It remains to be seen whether the interest will be mutual.
