Revamped Red Flames side wrap up Euro preparations with goalscoring fest against Luxembourg

The Red Flames completed their preparation for the Euro with a big victory against the modest team from Luxembourg. The Belgians followed in the footsteps of an excellent Vanmechelen, author of three goals and three assists, to win 6-1 against the Luxembourgers. The other goals of the match were scored by Tysiak, twice from set play and Blom.

The Red Flames start the meeting with their feet on the floor and Vanmechelen pass very close to the opener after not even a minute. On a cross from the right, the former Standard player takes the lead but her sending is a little too central on the goalkeeper.

The opener comes a few minutes late. A low cross is repelled by the defense but the ball remains in the rectangle. Vanmechelen strikes in time from the penalty spot and his cross shot ends up in the back of the net (11th).

The Red Flames are then a little less incisive and leave Luxembourg in the game. The young Jorge, 16, takes advantage of this and plays with the Belgian defence. After eliminating two Belgian defenders, she sends a magnificent exterior into the skylight of Lemey (34e).

The Belgians are stung and react to a corner played in two stages. Vanmechelen crosses towards the goal but the ball is not touched by anyone and ends up in the back of the net (44th).

Vanmechelen comes close to the hat-trick thanks to a header at the far post but the Luxembourg goalkeeper is well placed and sends back the sending.

The Flames’ third goal still falls just before halftime. We find Vanmechelen, this time on the assist. On a very off-center free kick on the right, the former Standard player crosses into the rectangle and Tysiak comes to cut the trajectory at the near post with a powerful header (45 + 3).

She had come very close to it in the first half, she succeeded at the start of the second period. Vanmechelen scored a hat-trick with a nice shot from the left from the entrance to the rectangle after eliminating his opponent with a nice hook (48′).

Tysiak then scored his second goal of the evening, once again with a header from an assist from Vanmechelen but this time from a corner and not from a free kick (73′).

The Belgians offer themselves a new goal on a new assist from Vanmechelen, decidedly untenable. This time it’s Blom which is at the conclusion. A goal full of frustration for the player who was not picked up by Ives Serneels for the euro.

The Red Flames will still have great chances but will no longer be able to deceive the opposing goalkeeper. By winning 6-1, they are still full of confidence before flying to England where they will play the Euro.
