When building the roster for the new season, the pirates continue to rely on players with knowledge of the North Bohemian environment. Defender Jakub Váchal also fits into this concept.

” href=”https://news.google.com/hrac/9457359″>Váchal switched to the Chomutov youth during the year 2017/18, he recorded the first starts among seniors the following season.

He then went to Hradec Králové, where he played mostly as a junior. During his two-year tenure, however, he increased the number of performances in the extraleague to eight and worked his way into the line-up of the first-league Kolín.

He managed 63 matches for Kozla with a balance of three goals and four assists. His time on the ice last year was around eleven minutes, in plus or minus statistics he ended up at seven negative points.

“This is a young promising defender who has played the first league steadily for two years and also looked into the extra league,” says Jiří Sochor, Chomutov’s manager.

“His physical parameters match the defender we were looking for in the team,” he adds.

The offspring of Pilsen hockey has great motivation after the comeback to the Pirates. “I do not take the competition as a step backwards, but as a chance to play more and show that I still have professional hockey,” he notes.

“I was clear that I only want to go to Chomutov in the second league, because I know it here and I have beautiful memories,” Váchal continues.

Pirates will be among the biggest favorites in the 2nd league: in addition to other well-known names, litvínov legends will play for them.
