Medvedev loses final and sees coach leave angry, Berrettini wins Queen’s

Medvedev expressed his frustrations towards coach Gilles Cervara after that game, something he had already done earlier in the match. Cervara was clear not amused and left the stadium grumpy.

The same happened last year at the Australian Open, when Medvedev also argued with Cervara during his third round match against Filip Krajinovic. The Frenchman strode away furiously and Medvedev won the game after all.

Second loss in a row

The same course was not possible in Halle. Hurkacz, also too strong for the Russian at Wimbledon last year, kept a cool head and that one break was enough to win the second set and therefore the match.

For Medvedev it was the second final defeat in a row. In Rosmalen he was unable to end Tim van Rijthoven’s fairy tale last week. Then it was 6-4, 6-1.

Most tennis players are now preparing for Wimbledon, which starts at the end of this month. Medvedev is not allowed to participate because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Berrettini extends Queen’s title

Matteo Berrettini won the Queen’s grass tournament in London, just like last year. The Italian, who was still too strong for Botic van de Zandschulp in the semifinals, defeated the Serbian Filip Krajinovic 7-5, 6-4.
