Much to the amazement of new United coach ten Hag. He was more than confident of being able to steer central defender Timber to England. After all, the two know each other from their Ajax times together, ten Hag promoted the young Dutchman and thus contributed to his appointment to the national team.

But what does van Gaal have to do with the surprising cancellation? With regard to the World Cup in Qatar next winter, the Dutch Bonds coach had stated that only players who play regularly for their clubs will make it into the World Cup squad.

According to “Mirror”, Timber was said to have been “terrified” by this warning and feared that a move to the “Red Devils” would reduce his World Cup chances.

ManUnited must now look for an alternative. Allegedly, Pau Torres (25/contract until 2024) from this year’s Champions League semi-finalists FC Villarreal is on the Premier League club’s list.
