The Juaristi Iraurgi has communicated this Saturday that Iñaki Jiménez will not continue to be the coach of the first team next season and has thanked “the friend who has written some of the most beautiful pages in our history” for the work done during the three years he has been in office, achieving the best sporting results of the Urolatarra club.

Club and coach understand that it is time to close a cycle and Iñaki Jiménez, 37 years old and who became a father this January, put his professional basketball career on hold in search of stability and better working conditions, something that Juaristi Iraurgi , the most modest club in the category and which is still an entity focused on the quarry, cannot currently offer.

Iñaki Jiménez took on Iraurgi in the summer of 2019 in the LEB Plata and in that campaign interrupted by Covid he already won his first title with the Cup in the category. A season later, in 2020/21, they achieved the double by repeating in the Cup and becoming champion of the LEB Plata, both titles against the Barça subsidiary, which allowed the Azpeiti-Azkoitiarras to ascend for the second time in their history to the LEB Gold.

Iñaki Jiménez’s team, always characterized by beautiful, attractive, fast and daring basketball, has earned the respect and admiration of basketball not only from Gipuzkoa, but also from Spain, reaching thirteen victories in the silver category with the team with the lowest budget in the league and ensure permanence in the LEB Oro for the first time in its history, making Azpeitia a stronghold by beating clubs such as Estudiantes, Oviedo, Palencia, Gipuzkoa Basket or Coruña.
