José Alvarado was promoted from Triple-A

The Phillies are calling up Jose Alvarado from Triple-A again, who pitched four scoreless innings for Lehigh Valley after being cut from the big team.

Phillies interim manager Rob Thomson said Alvarado had been throwing more strikes and would be ready to return.

The Creole pitched one inning on Sunday against the D-backs, allowing two hits and two earned runs, with two walks and zero strikeouts.

Before being sent to the minors, Alvarado had a 7.62 ERA in 13.0 innings this season.

To make room for the Venezuelan on the big team, the club sent Dominican southpaw Cristopher Sánchez to Triple-A.
