“It would be an illusion of me to become obsessed with staying in the NBA”

Arrived in the NBA in 2020, the Argentinian Facundo Campazzo struggling to find a place there, and while he will be a restricted free agent in a few days, his situation is rather vague. He confided that he would like to stay in the NBA and when Argentinian media TN asks him at what price, he replies:

“At the cost of staying happy,” said Facundo Campazzo. “I was never motivated by money, it was always about my happiness, the realization of a dream. Like when I left Real Madrid for the United States, it was my dream, but I had to take a lot of things into account: my family, what was I losing? I tried to think about everything. To stay in the NBA it will be the same process. Outside of basketball, my family has adapted very well to life in the United States, it was two very good years. And if they (Consuelo -his partner- and Sara -his daughter-) are fine, then everything is fine.

But he has no illusions about the offers he will receive.

“I don’t know what I’m going to get, but I know what won’t happen,” Campazzo said. “A team isn’t going to come and say, ‘You’re the starting point guard’ or ‘You’re going to be the second unit leader.’ Maybe the same thing will happen as in recent years, where I had to earn a place in the rotation. But I like it, it motivates me not to rest on my laurels. From there, I will make the best decision.

And he does not rule out a return to Europe and Real Madrid for example.

“It wouldn’t be painful at all, I’m not closing any doors,” Campazzo replied if asked if it would be painful to have to return to Spain. “Personally, it would be delusional of me to become obsessed with staying in the NBA. Maybe I won’t even get any offers. Real Madrid has always been a second home to me, but I have to wait. The truth is that I have no other option.

This season the Nuggets point guard has shot to 5.1 points at 36.1% including 30.1% from afar, 1.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1 steal in 18.2 minutes, and he has hardly played in the playoffs, limited to 3.3 minutes per game against to the Warriors.
