When you find ‘Herb Astronomical Park’, the only hub colony in Seoul, and climb the stairs to the top of the wooden deck, you feel as if you are in the Sky Garden. Under the blue sky, colorful lavender, geranium, sage, poppy, and other 160 kinds of herbs smell fragrant. You can enjoy and experience herbs of various colors and scents at the experiential learning center on the other side of the park. From July, you can observe the constellations with an astronomical telescope every Tuesday night. Reservations can be made through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website.

Gangdong Greenway Family Campground near Herb Astronomical Park is a well-known ‘hot place’ and competition for reservations is fierce. Unlike other campgrounds in the outskirts, users flock to the campground in a green space in the city center. It can accommodate up to 270 people a day, and for 4 people, for only 20,000 won per night, you can have a barbecue with your family in the forest in the nature park and make pleasant memories. On weekends and public holidays, you can enter the Toddler Forest Experience Center for free.

There are various outdoor sports facilities at the entrance of Iljasan. One of the few skate parks in downtown Seoul is located in Iljasan, so skateboarders flock to Iljasan X-Game Center on weekend mornings. Across the street is Ilsan 1st Gymnasium with 8 indoor badminton courts. It has 1 basement floor and 2 above-ground floors, complete with convenient facilities. Badminton tournaments hosted by the district are also held regularly.

Gangdong-gu mayor Lee Jeong-hoon said, “Now is the time to recover the body and mind exhausted from COVID-19 and return to daily life vigorously.”
