Franken Derby in the Bavarian Judo League

The second top-class derby of the season was recently on the program for the judoka of SG Eltmann. This time the Wallburg townsfolk had a home fight against the second team of the first division team from Erlangen. A so-called double start offers many athletes the opportunity to start in two league teams at the same time. However, the athletes in the lower league have a limited right to start.

TV Erlangen made full use of this option. Peppered with numerous first division fighters, the Middle Franconia in Eltmann came to the derby. On the Eltmann side, however, Patrick Schmidt and David Riedl were also two Bundesliga starters. So everything was set for an exciting Bayernliga encounter. Erlangen started concentrated and consistent and scored both points in the 66 kg class. David Riedl certainly reduced his match to 1:2 before Erlangen restored the old gap with the third point.

The four subsequent fights went optimally for the Lower Franconia and Schmidt, Greubel, Koserog and Buchinger were able to develop a 5:2 lead for their team. Erlangen was able to shorten again, but Dappert secured the 6:4 break lead for the home team in an exciting fight.

Both coaches made some changes during the half-time break before the judges called both teams onto the mat for the second half of the season. Erlangen got off to a better start and was able to quickly equalize to 6:6. Riedl increased to 7:6, Erlangen equalized again. 7:7. In the following encounters, Schmidt, Greubel, Koserog and Buchinger were able to score again for the Eltmanns and with the 11:7 they secured the much-celebrated victory in the hotly contested derby. Erlangen was only able to correct the result to 11:9.

With this important victory, the SG climbs back to second place in the current table, behind the title favorite from Abensberg.
