For the father of Klay Thompson, his son is the same mold as Kobe Bryant

Never far from her son Klay Thompsonin particular when the latter participates in Finals, Mychal Thompson was at the Chase Center to watch the start of the series between Golden State and Boston. And ahead of this Game 1 won by the Celtics (120-108), the former pivot of the Blazers, Lakers and Spurs was notably invited to discuss the game of the current Warriors back.

« He reminds me of three players “, First book the father, in response to a question about the similarities that may exist between his son and other players. ” Among them, there is one who does not play like him. But the other two, he sort of plays the same way and they’re Reggie Miller and Ray Allen. »

In the Thompson family, which includes one of the four champion father/son duos, Mychal is well placed to talk about Klay, who grew up with him and was immersed in the world of basketball thanks to him. But number 11 of Golden State was also inspired by someone else, according to the double NBA champion (1987, 1988).

“When he was in high school, he trained with Kobe Bryant”

« He has the mentality of Kobe Bryant “, he continued, in reference to the third player that his son reminds him of. ” Since I was a Laker, was around the franchise when Kobe was a young player, and worked for the Lakers starting in 2003, Klay grew up around him. »

Unlike Reggie Miller and Ray Allen, it is an understatement to say that the ways of playing of Klay Thompson and Kobe Bryant differ. It is therefore on the mental level that the father sees similarities.

« When he was in high school, he trained with Kobe Bryant says Mychal Thompson. ” Do you know what an advantage it is to train with Chris Mullin or Kobe Bryant? He didn’t have to listen to me. I was like, ‘Go talk to Klay for me guys’ and Kobe would sit down with him, talk about the mental aspect of the game, mental toughness and that’s an asset for Klay. He really took Kobe’s advice to heart. »

Advice that Klay Thompson must have used wisely during his recovery, in order to return from his two and a half years away from the parquet floors (almost) as if nothing had happened…
