For lack of guarantees, Laurent Sciarra is already leaving Hyères-Toulon

The joy was only short-lived for Hyères-Toulon Var Basket. His trainer Laurent Sciarra, who was coming to the end of his contract, announced to his president Gilles Garcia that he would not remain coach of the first team, after the rise in National 1 men’s (NM1) followed by the title of champion of France of National 2. The Niçois explained this in the columns of Var Matin, evoking a lack of structuring prospects to evolve at the higher level:

“We have no visibility for the rest, he railed. It’s been three months that we don’t know how we’re going to work. The first team, the kids … I asked the president again on Monday morning, he replied: ”I don’t know.” The N1 is hard and this club is not structured.”

After selling its professional club sports license to Paris Basketball in 2018, HTV returned to the men’s National 3. With a substantial budget for the division, the club quickly rose to NM2. Last year, thanks in particular to the arrival of a new president, Gilles Garcia, also a business manager, an even larger budget allowed the arrival of players from the next level. Then, in preparation, the former leader of the France team Laurent Sciarra resumed coaching. A prosperous season followed. But the future looks less bright, as the traditional HTV halls, Les Rougières and Espace 3000, are closed for security reasons and the club has since had to divide its time between Carqueiranne and the Palais des Sports in Toulon.

Should HTV be wary of CCG?

Back at HTV when we weren’t expecting it anymore, Laurent Sciarra left when we weren’t expecting it either. It remains to be seen whether the sporting climb has been recorded, the Var club will be able to receive the green light from the Management Control Commission (CCG) to evolve into NM1 at the start of the next school year.
