Ländle judokas cleared the tournament in Luxembourg.

Dornbirn. At the “6. Challenge de la Ville de Differdange” in Luxembourg, the Dornbirn judokas Matteo Gruber and Sheikh Aliev recently won silver and bronze in their respective weight classes. The field of participants was international again this year – judokas from England, Scotland, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany fought for the coveted medals. Judo national trainer Wouter Meijer was optimistic in advance and was right: “I am convinced that our small Ländle team with four starters can easily keep up with the other judokas.”

Matteo Gruber fought in the U18s up to 50 kg and met four opponents. So everyone had to fight everyone else. Gruber only lost one fight against the overall winner Hammer Bradley from Scotland, so he was assured of silver. Sheikh Aliev competed in both the U18 and U21 teams. In the U17s he finished 9th, in the U21s, – 73 kg, he was able to defeat one of his three opponents and thus won bronze.

Tatevik Minasyan won the double silver medal in the women’s U28 and U21, -48 kg, Max Schreiber also captured bronze in the U13, -42 kg. Thus, Vorarlberg was able to reach 13th place among 56 teams. “We congratulate you on this excellent performance,” said the state coach enthusiastically at the end. (cth)
