Fitzpatrick offers himself the US Open, his first Major

After the amateurs, the victory among the pros. On Sunday, English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick treated himself to his first US Openand at the same time his first Grand Slam title and even on the PGA Tour, in Brookline (Massachusetts).

At 27, the Briton became the seventh golfer in history to achieve such a performance after Orville Moody (US Open 1969), Paul Lawrie (British Open 1999), Shaun Micheel (PGA Championship 2003), Michael Campbell (US Open 2005), Louis Oosthuizen (British Open 2010) and Danny Willett (Masters 2016).

Fitzpatrick’s feat is all the more remarkable as the 18th player in the world held on to pressure from locals Scottie Scheffler, world No. 1 winner of the Masters in April, and Will Zalatoris (14th) who is still missing out. just a month after the PGA Championship.

Before arriving at this supreme title, Matt Fitzpatrick had never done better than a 5th place precisely during the PGA Championship only a few weeks ago. The Englishman is therefore on an upward slope, symbolized by a sublime putt of almost 15m at hole n°13 which allowed him to return to equality with Zalatoris. Before doing it for the first time, crack at hole n°15. Finally, a -6 was enough for Fitzpatrick to tame a demanding course, having admitted only eleven competitors under par.
