Ecuador wins medals in Judo, Karate and Artistic Gymnastics

The third day of the Bolivarian Games of Valledupar 2022 It was fulfilled, this Saturday, June 25, 2022, with the outstanding participation of Ecuadorians who won five medals. They are Astrid Gavidia (-57 kg) and Bryan Garboa (-60 kg) in Judo, with two Silver and Bronze medals, respectively; Ileana Miranda and Cristina Orbe in karate took second and third place, in that order; and finally in Artistic Gymnastics the men’s team won bronze.

In addition to the medals achieved, Team Ecuador entered the Games stage in Badminton, Boxing and Fencing

In the rest of the competitions, compatriot Juan Pablo Ayala lost to Willy García from Venezuela in the dispute for the bronze medal in the -66 Kg Judo category.

Karate fighters Ileana Miranda and Cristina Orbe won silver and bronze medals in kumite -55 kg and individual women’s kata respectively at the Bolivarian Games

In skating, the Ecuadorians Renato Carchi and Johan Mora placed fifth (19.117 s) and tenth (18.501 s) in the men’s final of the 200 m finish line, a test in which Colombia made the one-two on the podium, leaving the bronze for Chile.

In Badminton Emilio Zambrano and Alan Erben from Team Ecuador lost in men’s doubles against Peru 2-0, closing Ecuador’s participation in mixed teams. The individual tests continue tomorrow.

In skating (ladies), the Ecuadorian Amy Acosta started in the first final heat of the 200 m finish line, clocking a time of 20.0 seconds, and was not enough for a podium. Guatemala keeps the gold, Colombia with silver and El Salvador bronze.

In Artistic Gymnastics Joshua Calvache, Israel Chiriboga, César López, Joan Pilay and Johnny Valencia won the bronze medal for the team (male).

The XIX Bolivarian Games, which opened on June 24 in Valledupar, capital of the Colombian department of Cesar, will be “up to the level” of previous editions, according to its organizers, despite setbacks and difficulties in adapting some scenarios.

It is an event with which the Olympic cycle of Paris 2024 begins for 11 American countries and 3,264 athletes after five years with a pandemic in between and many obstacles.

For the realization of the Bolivarianos, the Government invested 110,000 million pesos (about 27.3 million dollars), of the total of 189,000 million pesos (about 47 million dollars) necessary to develop the skills.

In total, 3,264 athletes from 11 countries will attend, of which 1,547 are women and 1,717 men in 33 sports and 54 modalities, in which more than 400 medals will be awarded.
