Dominican infielder is placed on assignment by the Cubs

ST. LOUIS – The Chicago Cubs activated infielder David Bote from the 60-day disabled list on Friday while placing infielder Jonathan Villar on assignment.

David Bote, 29, will begin his first stint with the Cubs this season after going on the 60-day disabled list earlier this year as he recovered from left shoulder surgery.

During his rehabilitation he was assigned to Triple-A Iowa on May 29, where he hit .284 with six doubles, a triple, 12 RBIs and three stolen bases in 18 games he played.

During his four-year career with the Chicago squad, which began in 2018, Bote has a .227 batting percentage with 39 doubles, 32 homers and 138 RBIs in 343 major league games.

He was selected by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2012 Draft out of Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas.

For his part, Jonathan Villar, who was assigned by the team, was batting .22 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 15 RBI.

Villar, 31, has hit .222 (34-for-153) with six doubles, two triples, two homers and 15 RBI in 46 games for Chicago this season, having played a total of 46 games with Chicago this season.
