PELLA—Moran LonningThe Central College women’s basketball coach’s first season begins with three home games before Thanksgiving.
Lonning, a two-time Iowa Conference MVP at Luther College who served as a senior assistant at Simpson College for six seasons, makes his head coaching debut Nov. 8 against Waldorf College in Forest City.
The Dutch then played three games off the field at home, followed by three games in Illinois before upending American Rivers’ schedule with a Nov. 30 trip to Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
Excitement is growing for the Dutch, who return five starters from a 6-15 campaign interrupted by COVID, including a few performers at all conferences. Guardian Kelsea Hurley (senior, Scottsdale, Arizona, Desert Mountain HS) was ranked for a third consecutive season while in the middle Allison Van Gorp (second year, Pella, Pella Christian HS) she was also selected in her rookie season. Both were chosen by the second team.
Lonning is also putting together a junior collegiate program that has featured 11 games so far.
