Last Saturday the 18th, the Desafío Dos Palos regatta ended with the victory of the “Centinela”. A very competitive edition that was accompanied, both on the way out and on the way back, by magnificent weather conditions. The four boats that participated in it were the “Centinela”, the “Disparate”, the “Giraldilla” and the “Gipsy”, which departed on Thursday the 16th, on the occasion of Corpus Christi, from Puerto Sherry to Punta Umbría. Around 10:30 in the morning they released moorings on what seemed like it was going to be a good day for sailing. As the day progressed, that good day became even better, facing west winds of between 15 and 20 knots during the 7 hours that the challenge lasted.

The weather situation was repeated on the return leg.

A challenge that after 25 years continues to develop exactly as it did in the first edition: one-way journey from Puerto Sherry to Punta Umbría with dinner at the Real Club Marítimo y de Tenis de Punta Umbría between crews, Friday of a small crossing in the Ría from Punta and back on Saturday. Their crews, experienced in the challenge, loyally respected the only imposed rule: “The excessive desire for victory could be a reason for disqualification”.

One more year this regatta has left everyone wanting more: crews, spectators and regatta committee. So much so that the Fundación Vela Clásica de España, whose current boats have been participating since 2014, is seeing which classics from its fleet will participate next year: “It is a challenge that perfectly touches the philosophy of classic sailing and attracts the younger generations who are willing to sail as before and that is why we want the “Folía” and the “Livia” to join the 26th edition” stated Petete Rubio, vice president of the Foundation.
