In September, Carpinteros del Sur will carry out the first edition of the tribute tournament to “Adrián Mercado”, destined in this first presentation to the +35 masculine category, maxibasket.
The local club presented to the sports undersecretary the tribute tournament to the local athlete Adrián Mercado, who died on September 1, 2002 on the Ventana de Bariloche hill after an avalanche where they were performing together with his fellow students from the corresponding Comahue university to the Physical Education career a mountain exit corresponding to the curriculum of the Physical Education career.
This year, on the 20th anniversary of his physical disappearance, this tribute was born with the intention of being installed in the local sports calendar, extending year after year to the other categories.
“Adrián was a young athlete from our town who ventured into basketball, handball, soccer, downhill MTB, standing out for his sports ability that led him to be a benchmark in each activity, leaving his time in the sports life of Angostura very marked, that is why that we want to install a competition that reminds him of his passion year after year in basketball. In this first edition he is targeted for the men’s category +35 years, but we want year after year to add the other categories and install it as the meeting of the local basketball” emphasized from the Carpinteros del Sur organization.
The tournament is scheduled for September 03 and 04 at the Barbagelata gym, summoning the teams of the region, where it will be a kick to install the competition within the sports calendar of the town, from the organization of Carpinteros del Sur it was requested that be declared of municipal interest.
Adrian Mercado, on a sporting level:
Young athlete from the town, who took basketball as his main activity, practicing it since he was seven years old, representing CEF No. 7 within the competitions of the Bariloche Basketball League, selected to be part of the Rio Negro preselection that participated of the Araucanía Binational Games.
In athletics, he stood out in long jump, speed and javelin throw in interschool games. He was part of the handball teams achieving a provincial sub-championship at the school level, above the MTB he participated in two Argentine downhill championships. Soccer was one of the last sports that he was able to practice competitively, the Angostura club enjoyed his goals in the tournaments that the local team was part of in the Bariloche soccer league.
For the year 2002, he made the decision to continue studying Physical Education with a mountain orientation at the Universidad del Comahue in the city of Bariloche, being an activity of the same university where he left his life at the age of 21 after an avalanche that, in addition to Adrian’s life will take that of eight more companions.
