The coaching staff led by Leo Gutiérrez announced the list of 12 players who will represent our country in the World Cup of the category, which will be played from July 2 in Malaga.
The illusion is launched for the U17 Men’s National Team. In the last few hours, the squad that will play the U17 World Cup was confirmed, from July 2 to 10 in Malaga, Spain. The team, which has been training in La Banda, Santiago del Estero since the beginning of June, will repeat eight players from the squad that won the silver medal at FIBA Americas last year. The delegation will continue with the work until next Monday and then travel to Buenos Aires and from there to Europe.
In addition to the eight players who repeat with respect to the last official competition, four new faces are added, two from the local field and two from the international field. In total, the squad will be made up of seven boys who work abroad, including Lautaro Viatri, who lives and plays in Uruguay, where his father Lucas works as a professional soccer player.
“The team is fine, all the boys who came to the Pre-Selection, from the first to the last, were technically and physically prepared. We believe that we can compete at a good level in the World Cup. We are in the final stretch of preparation, with the team already defined, now we can start to go further with the assembly of the offense and add more defensive things that we still have to add. But we are on the right track, we are going to arrive with the defensive and offensive baggage for the World Cup at 100% “said Leo Gutiérrez, head coach of the selected team, who was also with the team during the contest played in Xalapa last year.
Argentina was seeded in the group stage draw. There it was decided that our boys will be part of Group D together with Egypt, Poland and the first of the Asia-Oceania qualifying contest, which is currently taking place. The long-awaited debut will be on Saturday 07/02 at 10:30 in our country, against Egypt. The next day at the same time, the boys will face Poland, on Monday they will rest and on Tuesday 07/05 they will close the first stage at 08:00 against the best in Asia/Oceania.
After a three-match regular phase, the 16 teams will advance to the round of 16 to begin the knockout phase. There the winners will continue in the fight for the championship and the losers to the respective reclassification phases. The tournament is scheduled to end on Sunday 10/07.
Regarding the objectives in the upcoming contest, the coach explained: “Obviously the aim will be to try to get into the top eight and then see how far we can climb. It is a very even category worldwide, but there are also European teams along with the United States and Canada that have a great advantage over the rest of the teams. The main idea is to try to win the group, it will not be easy but we are confident that the boys will be fine and will be able to have a good World Cup”he claimed.
Argentina will finish the training process in La Banda next Monday 06/20. Then he will travel to Buenos Aires, where he will stay for only one day, and the next day he will leave for France, his first European destination before arriving in Malaga, where he will compete in the international competition.
