Teichmann defeated Pliskova in 3 sets. On the other hand, Bencic has to say goodbye in Rome. In the 2nd round nothing fits together anymore.

Jil Teichmann (WTA 29) did not let Karolina Pliskova (WTA 6) stop her at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. The Swiss defeated the Rome specialist, who had always reached the final in the last 3 years, 6:2, 4:6, 6:4.

Teichmann won the first set with a break festival: the Seelander didn’t allow the Czech to play a single game on her own serve. Because Teichmann himself had to give up his own service twice, she brought the first round into the dry with a score of 6:2 after around 40 minutes.

After that, the 24-year-old quickly fell 3-0 down and was unable to save the second set despite catching up in the meantime.

In the decision-making process, the constant breaks suddenly stopped. Only when the score was 4:3 did Teichmann again manage to break through in service, which the Czech countered immediately. As a result, the Swiss actually made an eighth and final break, which secured her entry into the round of 16 after more than two and a half hours.

There she meets Jelena Rybakina (WTA 17). Just last week, the Biel native clearly beat the Kazakhs in the round of 16 in Barcelona.

Bencic out after a miserable 2nd set

The second Swiss in Rome has meanwhile been eliminated: Belinda Bencic (WTA 14) failed to take revenge against Amanda Anisimova (WTA 32). The eastern Swiss lost to the American 6: 7 (5: 7), 1: 6. At the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, she also failed in the second round of the 20-year-old.
