Nanbu Tekki Manufacturing Otomi (Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture) has developed a cast iron kettle-shaped training device “Kettlebell”. Targeting sports enthusiasts and athletes, experts supervise the design. The design-oriented kettlebell that has been commercialized so far has been improved for full-scale training. Aiming to develop the market for Nanbu Tekki, it is planned to be released later this year.

A kettlebell is a device with a handle attached to a sphere that is a weight, and is popular in Russia and the United States, where it originated. By holding the handle with both hands and shaking it back and forth using centrifugal force, you can train your core and sense of balance.

Oitomi pays attention to the weight of Nanbu Tekki, which is considered to be a drawback as a cooking utensil. In 2019, with the rise of the muscle training boom, the kettlebell with the Hannya side was released.

This time, we made improvements under the guidance of a judo rehabilitation teacher from Saitama Prefecture, who also serves as a kettlebell instructor certified by an overseas organization. The angle, width, and thickness of the handle have been adjusted in millimeters to make it easier to grip. The weight is generally 20 kg. The decoration was thoroughly removed with an emphasis on practicality.

Unlike commercial products that are coated with colorful vinyl, the only material is iron. When it is no longer needed, it can be dissolved and reused, taking the environment into consideration.

Oitomi is focusing on promoting traditional industries, and two years ago he also manufactured a one-of-a-kind kettlebell designed by a student of the Mizusawa Technical High School Interior Department.

Managing Director Akira Kikuchi (65) is enthusiastic, saying, “We aimed to be a” royal road “for iron products, although it is sober. It has become a specification that can be used by both sports club students and professional athletes. We want to expand the possibilities of Nanbu Tekki.”
