Wheelchair Basketball: Saturday race 1 of the Briantea84-Amicacci Scudetto final

On Saturday 14 May the Palazzetto dello Sport in Meda will host match one of the Scudetto final series in the top wheelchair basketball championship: starting at 2 pm, the holder of the tricolor title, the UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantùand the Deco Metalferro Amicacci Abruzzoat the second appearance in a final, after that of 2018 (lost against the Lombards).

This is the revenge of the recent final of the Italian Cup, played last April 30 in Pescara and won by Briantea84 with a score of 55 to 51, the only seasonal cross between the two teams so far.

The UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù won the ninth consecutive Scudetto final by winning group A of the regular season with full points and then recovering the disadvantage of game one in the semifinal against Avis S. Stefano, able to win on the home parquet 77 to 69 in overtime, before capitulate clearly in the return match in Meda, where the Lombards prevailed 77 to 58. The reigning Italian champions last week made official their farewell to coach Daniele Riva and are returning from sixth place in the Champions Cup in Germany.

The semifinal round of the Deco Metalferro Amicacci Abruzzo was easier: after having obtained the primacy in group B, overtaking S. Stefano Avis in the direct match, the Abruzzese prevailed on Studio 3A Millennium Basket both in race one (57 to 40 in Veneto), and in race two between friendly walls (73 to 57). Coach Carlo Di Giusto returns to the Scudetto final after six years, in his first year on the Amicacci bench and current coach of the Italian senior national team.

The Scudetto final series, unlike the semi-finals played with home and away matches, will take place in the best of three games: after the inaugural match in Meda, game two is scheduled for Saturday 21 at the Palacastrum in Giulianova (with a two-ball at 17), while the eventual race three will always take place in Giulianova the following day, Sunday 22 May at 15.30.

Race one referees will be Maurizio Zamponi, Stefano Rambelli and Valerio De Mattia.

At the weekend also the final finishes for third place (lo Studio 3A Millennium Basket will host the S. Stefano Avis), for fifth place (Dinamo Lab Banco di Sardegna against PDM Trevisorace one in Sorso on Saturday at 17.30) and for seventh place (Menarini Florence Volpi Rosse against GSD Porto Torreswith the round trip matches both scheduled for Saturday in Tuscany).
