Tottenham: Harry Kane discusses the possibility of one day playing in the NFL

A great American football follower, the Spurs striker said he admired star Tom Brady, who inspired him in his career.

A guest on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, Tottenham striker Harry Kane has reiterated his desire to try American football once his days as a soccer superstar are over. The England captain has revealed seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady played a part in his path to glory.

The 28-year-old remains a prolific presence in the Premier League, but he had to be patient to break through at Spurs and was once inspired by the legendary quarterback, who was the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

New England Patriots legend Brady, who put aside his retirement plans in 2022 to pursue his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, showed what he was capable of with the right mix of attitude and ability, and Kane hopes to pursue a similar path.

What did Kane say about Brady?

Discussing how the NFL’s GOAT helped convince him he could become a star in his own right, Kane said: “One thing that inspired me growing up was a documentary about Tom Brady.

I was on loan at another club and I didn’t get into the team, it was that period – I was 18 – and I was like, ‘If I can’t play here, how can I play for my team, Tottenham?

I came across this documentary on YouTube, I believe it was called “The Brady Six”, it was about how he got picked in the sixth round and became what he became, one of the greatest in sports all time.

“It gave me the belief that it was possible for me to pursue and pursue this career. Fortunately, I was able to do it.”

Will Kane pursue a career in the NFL?

While there are transferable skills between football and American football, few players have played at the highest level in both sports.

Kane remains keen to explore that option, and said, “I feel like I could do it. I’ll get into it, for sure.”

For now, Kane is concentrating on events at Tottenham and preparing for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar later this year.

He will travel to the Middle East as captain of the Three Lions, with his sights set on Wayne Rooney’s record 53 goals, which stands at 49 in 69 appearances.

Asked about his emotions ahead of the big world fixture in November, Kane said: “I’m excited. The last World Cup was really special – we went to the semi-finals, which was the first semi-final we reached in 30 years.

“The country was delirious, but of course we missed a stage. I’m really looking forward to this final.

“We have a great team, very good players, a very good coach and we have progressed well until this World Cup. Hopefully I can try to break that goalscoring record while we are there. “
