EDUCATION. The Cégep de Drummondville highlighted the perseverance and excellence of its 240 student-athletes at the Sports Gala on May 5.

The title of Sports Discipline of the Year was awarded to a team that has been constantly improving for several years, namely the women’s volleyball team. Head coach Roland Deshaies’ squad had a historic season, finishing first in the regular season standings. It has not lost any heats this fall. These excellent results also led the team to the Northeast Conference Championship.

The other collective distinction awarded annually at the gala, Discipline sportive en progression, went to the women’s basketball team. This one finished in 4e position in the regular season standings, after posting a record of 8 wins and 4 losses in addition to participating in the conference championship. This is a marked improvement compared to previous years.

Individual honors

It is also important for the organization of the Voltigeurs to reward student-athletes who have particularly distinguished themselves this year, whether in terms of academic results, team spirit, know-how or knowledge. -be.

To do this, scholarships of $370 were awarded to winners in the following categories: Female Athlete of the Year : Camylle Blanchette (women’s volleyball), Male Athlete of the Year : Loic Dupont (baseball), Sport-study female athlete : Amélie Roberge (women’s volleyball), Sport-study male athlete : Julien Deschênes (men’s indoor soccer), Female sports personality : Sarah-Maude Paquette (women’s volleyball) and Male sports personality : Philippe Belley (men’s volleyball).

The Academic Success Committee of the Cégep de Drummondville wanted to highlight the perseverance of a student-athlete. The title Honorable Mention was therefore awarded to Jacob Boudreault, member of the men’s basketball team.

In addition, each coach of the fourteen sports disciplines active during the 2021-2022 year also rewarded the student who obtained the best academic average in their respective sport, granting them the title of Academic Merit 2021-2022.

The following students were rewarded: Julien Leduc (badminton), Loïc Dupont (baseball), Heidi Payeur (women’s basketball), Théo Labbé (men’s basketball), Océanne Cossette (flag football) Charlotte Simard (football), Camélia Bazinet (women’s hockey ), Florence Melanson (swimming), Ellya Yergeau (women’s indoor soccer), Julien Deschênes (men’s indoor soccer) Nicolas Mayrand (tennis), Dali Brillon (archery), Amélie Roberge (women’s volleyball) and Benjamin Chaput (volleyball male).

Each year, nearly 240 student-athletes, divided into 14 sports teams, play across Quebec and proudly wear the colors of the Voltigeurs du Cégep de Drummondville.

For the college, it is important to highlight the athletic and academic efforts of these students who are often admirable examples of determination and success. It is also thanks to the Fondation du Cégep de Drummondville that this year, the winners shared
$4,500 in scholarships.
