The Cathedral of Noto Unesco Heritage: cultural and artistic rebirth

The Diocese of Noto adheres to the days of enhancement of the ecclesiastical cultural heritage # visionidicomunity by proposing a historical-artistic-catechetical path that traces the history of the building (from the ancient to the new Noto) on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of its inclusion in the UNESCO heritage.

A visit to the Cathedral Basilica of San Nicolò, the Cathedral Museum and the Diocesan Library is foreseen.

The event, from 15 to 22 May 2022, is organized by the Diocesan Historical Archive, the Diocesan Library, the Cathedral Museum in collaboration with the Rectorate of the Cathedral Basilica of San Nicolò, the Oqdany Ethical Cooperative, the Higher Education Institute “Matteo Raeli” of Noto and the Ecclesial Cultural Park “Terre della Diocesi di Noto”.

It will be possible to visit the Cathedral rebuilt after the collapse of 1996 with its works of art before and after the collapse. The Cathedral Museum will propose to visitors (tourists and diocesan communities), by thematic areas, the history of the building and the Chapter and, in particular, the phases of the collapse and subsequent reconstruction with the creation of new works of art. Further information on the Cathedral and its Chapter will be possible in the Museum where significant documents from the Diocesan Historical Archive will be exhibited and in the multimedia room of the Diocesan Library where special projections are foreseen.
