Stan Dewulf solos in Ruddervoorde to win the Sint-Eloois Prize | cycling

From the start, the pace was high in Ruddervoorde. 47 kilometers were completed in the first hour of the race. Still, eight riders went ahead of the pack. Including Sep Vanmarcke, Robbe Ghys and Timothy Dupont. They booked a maximum lead of 45 seconds.

The Minerva riders ensured a general regrouping. About halfway through the race, Tom Devriendt, Stan Dewulf, Robbe Ghys, Thomas Joseph, Ruben Apers, Julian Mertens, Zack Gilmore, Angus Lyons, Gianni Marchand, Matthew Rice and Peter Schulting went on an adventure.

With five laps to go, or just over 55 kilometers to go, the breakaway’s lead had grown to one and a half minutes. With three laps from the end it was only 50 seconds.

Just before the withdrawal of the final lap, Gianni Marchand accelerated. After that Stan Dewulf took his chance, but he was also nabbed. His second attempt, at 6 kilometers from the finish, was a good one, because behind him there was too long poker. Dewulf succeeds Sasha Weemaes on the honors list.
