With fabulous goals, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema became the king of the Champions League. The last few weeks have been just crazy. Now everyone knows who he is. However, the road to get there was long.

What would we miss if two such different types of players as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo hadn’t dominated international football for a full decade? The answer is easy: infinitely much. Another, more difficult question has plagued Real Madrid fans in recent years: what would have become of Karim Benzema if he hadn’t served Cristiano Ronaldo selflessly for nine years? Passed the balls to him, he, the nine, the world-famous number seven? What would have happened if Benzema hadn’t left the styled model athlete space for his self-celebration, for jubilant poses and ego parades?

We will never know. Benzema was never the elbow type, but the ideal partner. But we refuse to accept only CR7’s incredible goal record at the Spanish record champions – 450 goals in 438 competitive games. The truth, they now believe in Madrid, lies buried somewhere in the dream realm of opportunity, in the games that never happened and the fantasy goals that never came.
