Real Madrid and Anadolu Efes will play this Saturday for the title of European champion in Belgrade (Serbia). Pablo Laso’s men defeated their closest rival, Sarunas Jasikevicius’s FC Barcelona, in the semi-finals, after a great comeback in the third quarter (86-83). The Turks, meanwhile, beat Olympiacos in the other semifinal with a triple by Vasilije Micic at the buzzer (74-77). The Whites are looking for their eleventh Euroleague title —previous European Cup—, while Ergin Ataman’s team, current champions of the tournament, will be looking for their second victory in the continental competition.
Nikola Mirotic, named a few days ago as MVP (Most Valued Player, for its acronym in English) of the Euroleague and former Real Madrid player, was very disappointed in a press conference after the defeat against his former team: “They have played better, it only remains to congratulate them”.
Laso’s men reach the final for the title four years after the last time, when, also in Belgrade, they lifted the title after beating Fenerbahçe in a thrilling final (85-80). Luka Doncic was one of the most prominent in that meeting. Now, a star of the Dallas Mavericks, the Slovenian has not stopped following the team he loves wherever he is. On Thursday, after confirming Real Madrid’s place in the final, Doncic shared a photo on Instagram supporting the Whites from the floor of the Oracle Arena, where the NBA Western Conference finals are being played this week.
