The Dutchman from Alpecin-Fenix won the first stage and then came close to a second stage win a few times. On Friday and Saturday, however, Van der Poel wants to “save his strength”, as he is aiming for the final time trial on Sunday.
“That might be something I have to be able to handle,” said Van der Poel about the 17-kilometer race with a climb in the middle. “So I’m going to try to be a little frugal.
