Los Angeles (SID) – The North American professional basketball league NBA mourns the loss of one of its greats: the former top star Bob Lanier died on Tuesday at the age of 73 after a short illness. The league said so. Lanier, who played for the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks, was inducted into the Hall of Fame after retiring.
“Bob Lanier was a Hall of Famer and one of the most talented centers in NBA history, but his impact on the league stretched far beyond what he did on the field,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver . Lanier served as a post-retirement NBA ambassador and chaired a league-backed initiative that encourages children to stay in school.
In 14 seasons, Lanier averaged 20.1 points in 959 appearances. In 1984 he announced his retirement. The jersey number 16 of the eight-time Allstars was pulled under the ceiling of the hall by the Pistons and the Bucks and is therefore no longer assigned.
