“When are we going to do something?”: NBA coach Kerr’s moving rant in full
“I’m not going to talk about basketball today. Nothing has happened to our team in the past six hours. We’re going to play like we always do tonight. Basketball questions are not important today. A shooting spree killed 14 children 400 miles from here – and a teacher. And in the last ten days we’ve had old black people killed in a supermarket in Buffalo, we’ve had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, and now we have children murdered at school. When are we going to do something?

I’m tired of coming up here and expressing my condolences to the devastated families. I’m so tired of excuses. I’m so tired of moments of silence. Enough! “There’s a reason they won’t vote on this”
And there’s a reason they won’t vote on it — to stay in power. So, I’m asking you, Mitch McConnell, I’m asking you, all the senators who refuse to do anything about the violence and the shootings in schools and supermarkets. I ask you: will you put your own desire for power over our children, our elderly, and our churchgoers? Because that’s what it looks like. That’s what we do every week.
I’m sick. I’ve had enough of this. We’re going to play the game tonight. But I want everyone here, everyone listening to this, to think about their own child, grandchild, mother, father, sister, brother – how would you feel if that happened to you today? We can’t let that happen! We can’t just sit here, read about this, have a moment of silence and yell, ‘Go Dubs! Let’s go Mavs!’

“We’re being held hostage by 50 senators in Washington”
That’s what we’re gonna do. We’re going to play a game of basketball. 50 senators in Washington will hold us hostage. They realize that 90 percent of Americans, regardless of party preferences, want universal background checks. 90 percent of us!

We’re being held hostage by 50 senators in Washington who refuse to even vote on it, no matter what the American people want. They won’t vote on it because they want to hold on to their own power. It’s pathetic! I’m done!”
