Nantes wins its fourth Coupe de France by beating Nice in the final

The Canaries won after 1979, 1999 and 2000 and won their first trophy since their eighth French championship title in 2001. This success rewards the work of coach Antoine Kombouaré, a former home player between 1983 and 1990, who took over a team on the brink of relegation last season.

The people of Nantes are thus qualified for the groups of the next Europa League. The club has not played in the European Cup since 2004, and a short appearance in the Intertoto Cup.

Nantes succeeds PSG in the winners of the Coupe de France. PSG, winner of the two previous editions and crowned French champion for the 10th time last month, holds the record for Cup victories with 14 trophies, ahead of Marseille (10). Until this year, the Parisians had participated in all the finals since 2014,

Nice have lifted the Cup three times, in 1952, 1954 and 1997. The “Gym”, which wanted to offer its British owner Ineos its first title since the takeover in 2019, could join Nantes in the European Cup thanks to the Championship .

Christophe Galtier’s players, sixth in Ligue 1 three days from the end, are well placed to grab continental competition, a consolation after the missed opportunity in Saint-Denis.
