Havana.- THE CUBAN Leydis Posada improved his personal best today and finished in fifth individual place in the recurve bow modality of the Pan American Para Archery Championship of Sao Paulo 2024, in Brazil.

The woman from the capital, with barely a year dedicated to this sport, achieved a score of 487 points in the double lap at 70 meters.

With this performance, he improved his previous record by 50, recorded during the qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games that was held in early March in Dubai.

In the initial round, which includes 36 shots, Leydis reached 243 units. In the closing segment, with the same number of arrows, he got one more line.

«He competed very well and continued to demonstrate his evolution. Every time she participates in a competition she exhibits a higher level, which translates into a new personal record,” he commented to JIT the former goalkeeper Juan Carlos Stevens, who took on the preparation of disabled goalkeepers after his retirement from active sports.

“She finished in fifth place, after losing a close match and that is very creditable for someone who has only recently started practicing archery, a very demanding sport,” Stevens acknowledged after his pupil’s defeat against the Chilean Amanda Belén Garabito, with a score of 4-6 points.

“He surpassed my predictions,” confessed Stevens, the man with the best results on the Cuban elite team.

Despite the evident improvement in what represented the fourth international foray of his life, Leydis did not reach the 520 points that were set as the minimum mark to access the Paralympic event next summer in the French capital.
