MLB: the Blue Jays beat the Reds and sign a 3rd victory in four games

TORONTO – George Springer and Bo Bichette each drove in a run as the Blue Jays held on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 on Friday.

Santiago Espinal extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games for the Blue Jays (21-18). However, his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. saw his own stopped at 15.

Hyun Jin Ryu (1-0) allowed six hits and struck out three in six innings. He allowed no runs and lowered his ERA from 9.00 to 6.00.

Ryan Borucki, Adam Cimber, Yimi Garcia and Jordan Romano came in relief for the Queen City club.

Ontario’s Romano made his 13th save of the campaign.

Matt Reynolds drove in the Reds’ only point (11-27).

Luis Castillo (0-2) struck out five batters but allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings.

Hunter Strickland and Art Warren combined their efforts to allow no points in relief.

Reds first baseman Joey Votto, who grew up in Toronto, received a round of applause when he came up to bat in the second inning.

Alek Manoah (4-1) will be on the mound for the Blue Jays’ Saturday morning game against the Reds. He will be opposed to Hunter Greene (1-6).
